Nature-based Transformation

Most youth centres and adventure camps offer a safe environment for youth to have fun through indoor and outdoor recreational activities, which are known as “Outdoor Recreation”. Some of these facilities have designed part of their activities to include educational content, as an opportunity for schools to link subjects like history or sciences to their activities, and that is effectively what is called “Outdoor Education”.

Wild and Wise Tribe goes beyond recreational and educational outcomes by focusing on the wholesome development of the learner, connecting to nature by following a spiritually grounded approach, with plenty of moments to question and receive feedback on their journey to awareness and soul connection. We call that journey “Outdoor Transformation” or most specifically, “Nature-Based Transformation”.

transformation in action

What does nature-based transformation look like?

The conscious integration of the natural environment into the education and/or therapeutic process can take numerous forms. In most processes, there is a specific objective or intention for the work. This will determine which behaviours, modalities and initiatives are supported.

It may look like this:

Mindfulness practices in the outdoors

Experiential learning

Experiencing our senses or our own free flow of attention in nature

Taking up natural obstacles such as rock climbing, canoeing, or ascending a mountain peak

Learning natural survival skills in order to survive outdoors for several days or weeks, either alone or in a group

To improve self-care, learn about edible or medicinal plants

Having dialogues with the natural world (plants, animals, rocks, water, etc)

Nature provides metaphors for life, health, death, resilience, and other topics

Creating and carrying out a personalised ceremony or ritual outdoors

Being in contact with the elements and the unpredictability of the weather

Making art and crafts in the natural environment

Solos and vision-quests

Unplugging from technology and our daily routines and slowing down to earth time

Having the leisure and space to roam our ideas and behave spontaneously in regard to the natural environment

Wandering aimlessly and allowing ourselves to be led by curiosity

Consciously participating in relationships with animals and connecting to our primal ancestry

Celebration of seasons and inner compass tunning

Our 10 and 11-year-old boys loved the 4-day Bush and Life Skills Course! Nelson is a great mentor and knowledgeable instructor and taught essential life skills. The boys loved the survival skills, especially safe fire making, and we loved the teamwork the kids were exposed to in the engaging activities. They gained confidence, got to spend more time in nature, and made some great buddies. Highly recommended for a fun and educational experience!

Thank you so much to Nelson and Lise for facilitating such an incredible, informative educational 4-day course for my son and the other children attending.
Nelson offered a wealth of knowledge and bushcraft skills for 4 days, taking the children through a huge range of teachings and activities relating to the earths elements. My son was able to understand and gain so much knowledge of the outdoors. He absolutely loved it and felt safe with Nelson the entire time. Each afternoon my son boasted about what he learnt and how much he loved his time there. Thank you so much! You are an asset to the children of today. We will be back 🙏🏼

I had an absolutely incredible experience with Wild & Wise Tribe. Nelson is not only a highly skilled outdoor educator but also a truly genuine and inspiring leader. He crafted a powerful, purpose-driven wilderness experience exclusively for our men’s group, and every detail was thoughtfully designed to deepen our connection with nature, ourselves, and each other.

From start to finish, the experience was transformative—filled with meaningful activities, deep insights, and an atmosphere of trust and growth. Nelson’s dedication, professionalism, and passion for his work are evident in everything he does. I’m beyond grateful for this life-changing journey.

Thank you, Nelson, for your wisdom, care, and the incredible space you create! I highly recommend Wild & Wise Tribe to anyone seeking a profound and empowering outdoor experience.

Nelson is calm, collected and patient. He is knowledgeable about natural environment, very wise and intuitive. He went above and beyond for our students and even ran the devotions at the start of the morning and also added his own stories with a moral message. When our students were reflecting on the camp, everyone spoke highly of Nelson and said a highlight was the messages he instilled in the students. Nelson is an asset to your team and very spiritual and observant person with a kind nature. Thank you for the unforgettable experience our kids will remember!

The communication from our first encounter on the phone to the first time meeting, Nelson was an amazing human. I felt so confident and comfortable leaving my son at Wild & Wise. He still talks about his experience daily and can’t wait to get back in nature and learn more about survival in the bush.

My kids attended the Intro to Bush Skills one-day workshop and absolutely loved it. The program is amazing — engaging, hands on, and so thoughtfully put together. Nelson is incredibly passionate about his work and it really shows. The kids learned so much, built confidence, and had heaps of fun at the same time. Highly recommend this experience for any family looking for adventure, learning, and connection with nature.

I have been using Nelson’s counselling and mentoring services for a few months now, and I’m genuinely pleased with the impact our sessions have had on my day-to-day life. What I appreciate most is the diverse range of tools and approaches Nelson brings to the table. He blends neuroscience, astrology, and spirituality with his deep knowledge of nature and how the world works, creating a unique, holistic combination that truly resonates with me. Our conversations encourage me to reflect on my well-being, identify what’s working, and confront what isn’t. His recommendations are always practical, relevant, and easy to integrate into my routine. I strongly recommend Nelson’s counselling and mentoring services for anyone seeking a compassionate, holistic approach enriched with eclectic wisdom.

My son absolutely loved this course. Although it rained, he still learnt and enjoyed it. The 3-day program was the perfect amount of time.
Learning about nature and the elements around him was amazing to hear. The use of knowledge & learning to survive in the bush was a huge plus for him. He made great connections with others around him. Learning to build a hut, make a fire & cooking dampers was a bonus. It was a great program for my 11-year-old son to experience. Highly recommended.

“My 7-year-old son attended a Bush Skills Day, and he said he absolutely loved it. He described it as “fun, great and good” and especially enjoyed learning how to build a shelter. He was really proud of how much he learned.
What I appreciated was that the day was more than just bush skills; it also supported confidence building and social development. When I met Nelson, I sensed a calm, grounded presence and felt completely comfortable leaving my child in his care. I felt confident my child was in good hands and learning in a supportive, nurturing environment. Since that day, my son continues to tell me he can’t wait for the next one!”

My daughter attended the ‘Intro to Bush Skills, Mindfulness & Survival Techniques for Kids’ and had an amazing time. The event covered a great range of topics and activities that were interactive and could encourage her adventurous and wild spirit, whilst being educational and building independence and confidence! 😄 I would highly recommend any of the Wild & Wise Tribe events and my daughter already asked when the next one was before it had even finished!

Nelson, the holistic head instructor from Wild & Wise Tribe, shared a wealth of knowledge about the bush, the importance of community, and connection to Country. My son, who is 8, was able to connect with his hunter-gatherer roots and bond with his little tribe, working together as a team to gain fundamental skills like creating shelter, building a fire, and filtering water. They even learned first aid and how to make damper.

Every child should have the opportunity to disconnect from today’s fast-paced world and learn mindfulness life skills in such a beautiful forest setting. My son had so much fun and came home each day grounded, more capable and wiser, with a newfound appreciation for the outdoors. Thank you to Nelson and Heidi for this incredible experience.
